Fauré’s Piano Trio in D was written in 1923 and this late work was enthusiastically welcomed by the Parisian press, with one reviewer praising its “elegant clarity and serenity.” The same qualities are apparent in Lili Boulanger’s vision of Spring, composed just six years before and bearing the influence of Debussy. It was one of the last works of this fine composer who tragically died at the young age of 24.
